After a day in the car, it felt good to walk Toby a mile from our bed and breakfast in Old Town Albu querque to a little cafe with a lovely patio. Tomorrow morning we are going to check out Sandia Crest, and then tomorrow night we stay in Amarillo, TX. This morning we had an amazing drive out of Flagstaff recommended by Oppo’s own DipodomysDeserti. Thanks, man, I owe you for that road. I am planning on staying at La Posada in Winslow on the way back per his recommendation.
The last pic is the front of the b&b, and my room is in the back with a small private yard for the boi. Toby approves even though the dog door is too small. He has been very good on the road and is showing is usual excellent restaurant manners. This should be a nice evening.

We blitzed through Albuquerque this weekend and the tram to Sandia looked sweet, just no time for us.

As a native of Albuquerque, I’d be remiss in not pointing out the correct spelling. That said, it is a forgivable error for anyone not a native . The next challenge is learning to spell Bernalillo County...
Enjoy your evening my hometown (waves from 250 miles down I-25)!
Should you want a fantastic breakfast tomorrow, I can recommenced any of the Flying Star Cafe locations.

If you are looking for a great place to stay (and eat) in Amarillo, I recommend you keep going. I do think Toby could finish the 72 oz steak at the Bi g Texan though....

Of COURSE ITA97 recommends Flying Star. This is not a wrong recommendation; I just disagree that it’s the best choice for breakfast. You should have breakfast at Sadie’s.
You also won't need to eat for the rest of the day. Maybe the week. But it's soooo good.

You a Sadie’s fan, or is it over-hyped?

What’s the alternate road out of Flag? Old 66 or something more obscure?

I’m indeed a Sadie’ s fan. I also like Garcia’s kitchen, and mourn the loss of Dos Hermanos. El Pinto certainly has it s place, too.

Although the Balloon Fiesta isn’t for a couple more weeks, it cool enough in the mornings now in Abq that you may see a few folks up flying tomorrow morning. Likewise, you might see a few aspen trees up near the top of the crest with leave s just starting to change color.
If you two are interested in some hiking in the morning, there are some service roads in the vicinity of the base of the ski area (iirc) on the way up to the crest that make for some good, casual hiking/nature walk kind of stuff . There’s also some trails that run along the rim for a ways. They have spectacular views, but they tend to be pretty exposed and windy up there on the rim at 10,000+ ft. elevation.
